Podcast Recap: Two Virtual Learning Activities to Develop Collaboration Skills

One of the top skills needed in a hybrid environment is collaboration.

Collaboration is a skill that is also used in the in-person environment, but it looks different when hybrid. Hybrid collaboration requires clearer expectations, open communication, and thoughtfully designed and productive virtual co-working sessions.

In this week's episode of Learning for Good, we'll explore two virtual learning activities you can implement to develop your team's collaboration skills.

What You Will Discover:

[02:31]

✔️ Establish group norms. Your team leaders need to practice establishing group norms. Group norms are what allow your groups to work together - or collaborate - more effectively. The idea here is not that they leave the space with a list of group norms, but that they leave the space ready to facilitate the conversation with their teams.

[05:20]

✔️Implement, reflect, and adjust. In a best-case scenario, participants are able to try out this new skill in the real world. When creating the virtual learning activities, try to schedule things so your team leaders have a chance to implement what they are learning with their teams. Then, bring them back together virtually to reflect and adjust.

This gives participants a chance to reflect on their experience with establishing group norms AND the outcome - the impact on hybrid collaboration.

✔️Transfer the learning. The approach your team leaders use to create group norms might also help them with other aspects of collaboration. Build in time to ask them how they might use a similar approach for other challenges they are having as a team. This will help them to apply the same skills in other areas of their role.
